Horners visit HMS Puncher

In 2017, thanks to Freeman Richard Brown, whose son Lieutenant Oliver Brown was then in command of HMS Puncher, The Horners’ Company began an association with the vessel. Oliver handed over command to Lieutenant Lauren Webber in March 2018. As usual, our Carol service followed a meeting of the Court at Painter Stainer’s Hall. Towards the end of court, Armelle Ellison, our current holder of the Ridgewell Jewellery Grant gave a short presentation of her work including a ring of silver and horn that she has designed and made. MASTER’S CHARITY HOXTON VISIT

During 2018 around 60 Horners have taken part in visits to the Salvation Army Community Centre in Hoxton, Hackney. During each visit there was an opportunity to view the roofspace that is being transformed by the Master’s Charity into a multi-activity and well being rooftop garden – alongside being hosted to lunch or tea in Major Sally Spry’s flat. Not a particularly memorable year for HGS, with losses in matches against the Tin Plate Workers and the Actuaries, and forfeiting the Pewterers’ Quaich, even though the Competition was held at Steve & Maggie Bradbury’s home course, Betchworth Park. 1349 (Woking) ATC Squadron, the RAF, the Cadet Squadron with which the Horners’ are affiliated,  held their annual inspection on Saturday 17thNovember. The Receiving Officer for the event was Wing Commander Andy Massie OBE MPhil MA RAF who is a Royal Airforce Pilot and Qualified Weapons Instructor.
