Our Annual Banquet is the highlight of the Company’s year and by kind permission of the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, it was once again held in the magnificent Mansion House, London. This year on Thursday 3rd October, it was our pleasure to welcome the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor Peter Estlin, the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Lindy Estlin and our guest speaker, the Hon Elizabeth Green, newly retired from being a Sheriff last year.
The Banquet is usually one of the first events in the Shrieval year and so we were pleased to also greet, as our guests, Sheriff Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli and Sheriff Christopher Hayward together with their consorts. Other guests included the Master Barber, the Master Framework Knitter, and the Master Salter together with their consorts. We were also pleased to welcome Squadron Leader John Mcfadden of 27 Squadron RAF, Lt Sam Stallard, Captain HMS Puncher and Plt Officer Jusin Muir of 1349 (Woking) Air Training Corps, organisations with whom we are pleased to be associated.
As is our custom, during the evening the Lord Mayor and the Master presented the Horners’ Award for Design and Innovation in Plastics and the Horners Bottlemaking Award. These well-deserved awards reward excellence and are much appreciated by the recipients. The winner of the student Design in Plastics Award , Miss Daniella Kaliorsky, was also congratulated. The Master then presented, as an interim payment, a cheque for £5,000 to Mrs Clea Harmer, the CEO of Sands, his Masters Charity for this year.
The London Banqueting Ensemble entertained us with music throughout the evening. After an excellent meal, the ceremony of the Loving Cup, and various toasts, came entertaining speeches rounded off with the post horn gallop where the two trumpeters from the London Banqueting Ensemble compete to out play each other. A most enjoyable evening was had by all.
