OUR NEW MASTER IS INSTALLED

This year, at the Installation Court, Dr David John Giachardi was installed as Master,  Martin Andrew Muirhead as Upper Warden, Michael Ian Birrell as Renter Warden whilst Last year’s Master, Gordon Warwick Haines MBE became Deputy Master. THE NARWHAL HORN INSTALLED IN CHAMBERLAIN’S COURT

Since being presented to the Company in 1968, our splendid 9 foot long Narwhal Horn (which is actually a tusk) from a Narwhal Whale, dating from 1801, was processed at ceremonial occasions. Sadly over time it became too fragile to be moved and has been restored by Teresa Heady, the Senior Conservator at St Paul’s Cathedral. Horners visit HMS Puncher

In 2017, thanks to Freeman Richard Brown, whose son Lieutenant Oliver Brown was then in command of HMS Puncher, The Horners’ Company began an association with the vessel. Oliver handed over command to Lieutenant Lauren Webber in March 2018. Towards the end of court, Armelle Ellison, our current holder of the Ridgewell Jewellery Grant gave a short presentation of her work including a ring of silver and horn that she has designed and made. MASTER’S CHARITY HOXTON VISIT

During 2018 around 60 Horners have taken part in visits to the Salvation Army Community Centre in Hoxton, Hackney. During each visit there was an opportunity to view the roofspace that is being transformed by the Master’s Charity into a multi-activity and well being rooftop garden – alongside being hosted to lunch or tea in Major Sally Spry’s flat.
