On Tuesday 19th December, our annual Court Meeting, Carol Service and Supper took place. At the Court, the following were admitted as Honorary Freemen ad officium: The President of the British Plastics Federation Mr Nigel Flowers, The Officer Commanding 27 Squadron, Wing Commander Alex Bone, The Commanding Officer of HMS Puncher, Lieutenant Alex Snow, and the Commanding Officer of HMS Agamemnon Commander David Crosby. Mrs Karen Drinkwater was admitted to the Freedom of the Company and Cadet Warrant Officer Samuel Baker and Miss Francesca Marshall became Associate Members. After the Court had closed everyone walked the short distance to St James Garlickhythe for the Carol Service and once again it was a privilege to be in that lovely Wren Church.
Then back to Painter’s Hall for a champagne reception followed by traditional Christmas supper of Turkey with all the trimmings. Afterwards we were entertained by our Becker Scholar, Emyr Lloyd Jones, a baritone from North Wales, and a post- graduate Opera Course student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama who sung his heart out. The subsequent raffle and Liveryman Spike Reid’s ‘Heads and Tails’ raised an impressive £2,100 for the Master’s Charity.
Past Master Emeritus Jeremy Cartwright finished the entertainment with his rendition of ‘The Horners are Best’ with everyone joining in for the Chorus. Finally, the Master bid us all goodnight after a most enjoyable evening.
