The Master kindly organised a visit to Merton College Oxford on 2 July for a guided tour of the College and informal lunch in the Hall.
Merton, founded in 1264, is one of the three oldest colleges in the University. It has beautiful mediaeval and later buildings and gardens with views over Christ Church Meadow towards the river. Our tour included the Upper Library, one of the oldest in the UK, dating from fourteenth century. We will also visited the College Chapel, also originally dating from the 14th century, and enjoyed a relaxed lunch in the Hall, originally dating from the 13th century. We will also toured the particularly fine gardens.
