The Horners have entered an exciting new affiliation with Royal Navy submarine HMS Agamemnon. At the recent Banquet the Master and Commanding Officer Commander David “Bing” Crosby signed the Memorandum of Understanding. Commander Crosby was joined for the Banquet by four officers, warrant officers, and senior non-commissioned officers. They enjoyed their first Horners event, and everybody who met them.

HMS Agamemnon is currently building at BAe Systems Submarines at Barrow in Furness. She is an attack submarine, the sixth of the seven members of the Astute class. Agamemnon will be launched next year and likely to be commission in 2025. She will be in service for 25-30 years, meaning that we shall have a long-term affiliation bringing together future submariners and Horners.

There will be an award, the “Happy Horners Trainee of the Year” that will be first presented at the Horners’ Christmas Supper. An inaugural Zoom event to introduce HMS Agamemnon to Horners is being planned.

The Horners affiliation with patrol vessel HMS Puncher is continuing and has this year gone from strength to strength with two visits to the ship, and personnel attending events, including the Banquet.

Our affiliation was also acknowledged in ‘The submarine family’. Click to read.
