Thanks to Liveryman Valanda Bone, a group Horners were invited to visit the Grundon Recyling plant just outside Heathrow Airport at Colnbrook. Our host, Chairman Norman Grundon, met us at their Lakeside Education Centre, and began with an entertaining and very informative talk about their impressive business. Grundon is the largest privately owned waste management company in the UK with over 800 employees, a turnover of over £120 million operating across the south and South East of England. Their operation take in every sort of waste; they recycle as much as they can, incinerate what they cannot and generate enough electricity for 60,000 homes. The waste they handle include hazardous, clinical and other forms of waste that need specialist treatment. We divided into two groups and took it in turn to visit their incinerator and then their recycling plant. We were most impressed with the whole operation and over a buffet lunch back at the Education Centre, Renter Warden Mike Birrell thanked our host for his hospitality.
