This year, at the Installation Court, Michael Birrell was installed as Master,  John MacCabe as Upper Warden and Barry Maunders as Renter Warden. Our outgoing Master,  Martin Muirhead was installed as Deputy Master.  Prior to this, Wing Commander Suchit Pandey was installed as a Liveryman, Mrs Karen Drinkwater, the President of the British Plastics Federation,  was installed as an Honorary Freedman,  Steven Hickey as a Freeman and  Miss Holly Longhurst as an Associate Horner. Liveryman His Honour Judge Simon Oliver was installed as a Court Assistant, together with Liveryman Richard Brown who was installed as an Honorary Assistant to  the Court in his capacity as Chairman of the Polymer Committee.

We install our new Master every year on Candlemas Day, the day in the Church Calendar marking the Virgin Mary presenting the infant Jesus in the Temple. After the installation Court, the Master and Wardens processed to the Church of St James Garlickhythe for the Election Day Service which was taken by our Chaplain, the Reverend Gary Bradley whose sermon was most inspiring.

Then the congregation returned to Painter’s Hall for a reception and convivial Luncheon. During his maiden speech as Master,  Michael Birrell told us about his Charity for the year, Age Exchange, a Charity based in Blackheath helping those living with dementia.

During lunch, our Becker music scholar, Amy Holyland, gave us a recital which  was  enthusiastically received. Past Master Michael Hart gave thanks to the outgoing Master, Martin Muirhead, for his contribution to the Horners in what had been a most difficult two years for him. Our Senior Past Master Miles Baird finished the occasion toasting the Company with its root and branches foreever.
