This year, at the Installation Court, held at Painter Stainer’s Hall, Barry Maunders was installed as Master, Rebecca Joyce as Upper Warden and Dr. Michael O’Brien as Renter Warden. Our outgoing Master, John MacCabe was installed as Deputy Master. Prior to this, Peter Llewellyn-Stamp and Dr Geoffrey Mackey were admitted as Freemen and Lee Morton and Matthew Wood to the Livery.

We install our new Master every year on Candlemas Day, the day in the Church Calendar marking the Virgin Mary presenting the infant Jesus in the Temple. After the installation Court, the Master and Wardens processed to the Church of St James Garlickhythe for the Election Day Service, which was conducted by the Reverend Tim Handley whose sermon was most well received.

During his maiden speech as Master, Barry Maunders told us about his Charity for the year, ‘Development Through Challenge’, a Charity whose CEO, Dean Straw, gave a talk telling us all about their youth project in the East End of London operating an indoor climbing wall to give young people opportunities for development through undertaking challenging activities.

The outgoing Master John MacCabe presented a giant cheque for £30,000 to a representative from  the Dogs Trust his Charity for the preceding year.

Past Master David Giachardi gave thanks to the outgoing Master, John MacCabe, for his contribution to the Horners in what had been a most successful year. Our Senior Past Master Miles Baird toasted the Company with its root and branches forever.
